Colour My World with Sakura Soufflé Pens
Ever look into the window of an ice cream display case and can’t take your eyes off the yummy colour inside, soft fluffy and delicious, I am almost drooling at the thought. Well it has probably been a while but while we shake off those winter chills and head into spring, we can enjoy the soft fluffy pastel colours of “Soufflé” on our scrapbooking pages!
The beauty of these pens is that when left to dry they give a marvelous effect with their opaque 3d appearance particularly when used on dark or the now very popular Black pages. Available in a large range of pastel colours they are definitely a must have addition to your scrapbooking or card making supplies. Just a warning though, just like the real thing, Soufflé’s are definitely yummy and terribly addictive!
Doodling is all the rage at the moment in Scrapbooking, but if you find yourself “Doodle challenged”, then you can always CHEAT! The layout “Dazed and Confused” uses a combination of the fabulous Rhonna Farrer acrylic stamps, the Fiskars stamp press (we discovered this new product at SENZ Manakau) and the Soufflé pens to give a simply gorgeous eye catching effect. Follow the steps below to create a layout that will have your friends drooling over your talent.
Step 1. Load up the stamp press with acrylic stamps (any acrylic stamps will work) the beauty of the Stamp press is that with foam feet, you can sit it over your page to check the positioning of stamps and adjust them until you are happy, then it’s as simple as lightly inking the design, easily reposition over your page and using two hands, press down onto your work, then simply take your hands away, the stamp press will come away slowly by itself, no smudges, no misplaced stamps. Brilliant!
Step 2. Using the Soufflé Pens draw over the stamped image to colour with a 3D effect.
There are some tips that are handy to know when using Soufflé Pens. These are not difficult to master and within a few minutes you will be a natural at drawing with your pens. Some tips for using your pens are listed below -
- When opening they do have a small wax tip that you need to remove before use.
- To get the ink flowing, tap gently a few times on a piece of paper.
- Excess ink will dry around the nib when you have finished, remove this before next use by wiping the nib on some tissue or paper then repeat tapping to get the ink flowing again.
- Draw in your shapes lightly with soufflé pens. Don’t press hard or draw too quickly as it will stops the ink flow from the pen and can look scratchy.
- When you have drawn a line, it will look clear and wet; you will wonder if anything came out of the pen but… WAIT…. for it to dry, within just a few seconds it will dry to a fluffy opaque finish.
- If you want a thicker look, when completely dry simply re-draw line over the top.
- Filling in shapes can be done if you work on a small section at a time, while the ink is wet, it will all blend together, and if you miss any spaces go back to it after it has dried.
These pens are also brilliant as you can draw on almost any surface, paper, plastic, metal, chipboard buttons and photos. The best results are achieved if using a smooth surface, textured cardstocks usually require going over a second time for full fluffy effect.
Ask at your local Scrapbooking store or contact Jasco, New Zealand distributor for these fantastic pens.
